What was at stake.
Five sites, three contractors and one school board that had made a public promise. Each school had its own schedule format and cost report. The board saw five stories every month and could not tell which school was in trouble.
How we controlled it.
What our schedulers and cost engineers did on this project.
One program schedule
We rolled five contractor schedules into one program schedule in P6 with a shared calendar and a shared data date.
Standard templates
Each school used the same WBS, cost codes and logic library, which made the second through fifth schools faster to control.
Bond cash flow
Cash flow forecasts matched bond draws, so the district never borrowed early or ran short.
Board reporting
A one-page monthly report showed every school on the same scale, with the real risks named in plain words.
The result.
The second school was easier than the first, and the fifth was the easiest of all. That is what a program is supposed to feel like.
