What was at stake.
Dispatch could not go dark for a second. The new building needed redundant power, cooling and network, all tested before any call moved. The cutover plan sat outside the schedule, and the building schedule ended at substantial completion.
How we controlled it.
What our schedulers and cost engineers did on this project.
Mission critical testing
Generators, UPS, cooling and network were tested in full integrated systems tests, the way we test data centers.
Cutover in the schedule
Radio, phone and dispatch system cutover were added to the schedule with go and no-go points.
Parallel operations
Both centers ran in parallel for a planned period, scheduled and staffed like any other work.
Storm season respected
Go-live was set outside the storm season, and the schedule protected that window.
The result.
A 911 center is a data center with lives on the line. We commissioned it that way.
